New features (TV model)

  • Android TV 14 support added.
    - Android 14 is now the primary supported version. All features are expected to work fully and reliably under Android 14.
    - Android 11 is no longer the main supported version, although basic support remains. Since Google is now enforcing the upgrade to Android TV 14, Android 11 compatibility is considered secondary.
    - With automatic Android 11 setup, everything should function as before, except for

  • Developer options → USB Host, which must be enabled manually. If this setting is not enabled and USB devices are connected to the ATV USB port, connected USB devices may not work and the ATV may lose its network connection.

  • Support for Auto Frame Rate in apps on the ATV system. It works only in apps which use Android Frame Rate API. Compatible apps include Netflix, SmartTube and some others.
    Support for integer 24.0 / 30.0 / 60.0 framerates, in addition to previously supported fractional 23.976 / 29.97 / 59.94 framerates. This support is available only for apps which use Android Frame Rate API.

  • Better support for automatic switching between SDR / HDR / Dolby Vision.

  • Support for DTS HD HRA, DTS HD MA, DTS X bitstream passthrough. Only for apps that can use this. Not important, because files are played by the main system. (Explorer / R_video).

  • Various improvements in system settings for video and audio.

  • Enhanced security and privacy with the updated Google security patches. If this setting is disabled and USB devices are connected, they may not function and the ATV may lose network connectivity.

  • The V+/V-/MUTE buttons on the main remote now also control the volume of the ATV system too.

  • Long‑pressing the MODE button now works like the INPUT button on the front panel (switches HDMI inputs).

  • Added ability to uninstall the ATV app via the POPUP menu in Explorer.

  • Added ability to install an ATV app from an APK file using Explorer.

  • Added New setting "Applications - Android Apps - Install apps to" determines where to install the APK file: on the main system, on the ATV, or ask. Ask by default.

  • After installing an APK from a file, you can now launch the app immediately.

Bug fixes (ATV)

  • Fixed an issue where an incorrect EDID could sometimes be used.

  • Fixed an issue where the Apple TV app on the ATV could incorrectly detect missing HDCP protection and lower video quality.

  • Fixed the appearance of the old Google Play Movies icon (now replaced by YouTube and the Shop tab).

  • Fixed various interaction issues between the main system and the ATV in certain situations.

  • Fixed several issues that could cause errors during the initial setup of the ATV.

  • Fixed issues that could cause errors when resetting the ATV.

  • Fixed an issue where, after rebooting the ATV from the ATV itself, the main remote would no longer control the ATV until going back through the main system. This behavior is now automatically corrected.

  • Improved reliability: if the primary remote‑control handling method on the ATV fails, a fallback method is now used automatically. This also allows the remote to be used when the ATV is in Recovery mode. Limitation: the fallback method only works if the main remote is paired via Bluetooth with the main system. It does not support IR or IP control (all remote types remain supported by the primary method).

  • Fixed an issue where an incorrect EDID could sometimes be used.

  • Possibility to toggle AIPQ and AISR modes during playback. Longpress of keys 5 and 6 can be used for that.

  • Possibility to adjust Brightness, Contrast and Saturation during playback. Menu -> Picture settings can used for that. Note: this feature is not available on Dolby Vision and Dolby VS10 due to Dolby restrictions.

  • Show file size in INFO panel during playback, including ISO.

  • New firmware for the R_volution RF Remote Control (version 02.01.20). It is included into the player firmware. The remote control is automatically updated if old firmware version is installed on it. This firmware allows to set the backlight timeout of the R_volution RF remote control to 3s, 5s, or 7s using key combinations SET+7, SET+8, or SET+9; default backlight timeout changed from 3s to 5s.

  • Disable all IR codes except R_volution RCU IR codes (with code 4040).

  • Output of DD+ Atmos in bitstream mode from some Android apps did not work in some rare cases.

  • Specific video files with CUVA HDR could have playback issues.

  • Specific video files created using the ATEME library could be played with incorrect HDR parameters.

  • New version of R_video v1.6.29.

  • Added support for R_volution RF + IR Remote Control.

  • Introduced a new "Setup > Video > Picture Quality" menu with the following settings: Sharpen Picture (default: OFF), AI PQ/SR (default: OFF), improved DV Black Levels (default: OFF). The default values for these new settings result in a different video processing behavior compared to previous firmware versions. This new behavior generally provides better picture quality in most cases. However, depending on personal preferences and connected equipment, some users may wish to adjust these settings to restore the previous behavior. (Note: AI PQ/SR settings are available for 8K models only.)

  • Added full support of STD DV with CMv4.0

  • Added DVD Menus Support.

  • Added "Setup > Misc > Display > Show additional icons" setting. This option is disabled by default. When enabled, the front panel display shows a few status icons.

  • Added setting "Setup / Audio / Sample rate switch delay" (8K models only). It fixes the problem that beginning of audio files could be not heard because of HDMI audio sample rate switching takes some time (when native audio sample rate is used and audio file sample rates is different from 48 kHz). The default value is 800 ms, which seems to be enough for most AVR and TV models. Depending on the used AVR / TV model, it may be needed to choose a different value.

Improvements

  • Updated French UI translation.

  • The "Use VS10 for SDR/HDR" video setting is now OFF by default (this change will take effect after a settings reset).

  • Disabling Hi-Fi mode when the files played are too large.

  • Added support of Unicode UTF-16 LE coding for the subtitles.

  • Non-relevant settings in "Setup / Audio" menu are now grayed out for conveniency (same as in "Setup / Video" menu).

  • Fixed: When playing BD Lite, wrong subtitle track could be switched on in some cases.

  • Fixed: VS10 was wrongly enabled in some cases when playing VC-1 videos and VS10 disabled in settings.

  • Added: New option to change the Display brightness. To change it, go to Setup > Misc > Display > Display brightness: (Off, Level 1 to 4).

  • Added: New option to change the power LED brightness. To change it, go to Setup > Misc > Display > LED brighness (when player is on): (Off, Level 1 to 5).

  • Minor other fixes and improvements.



Online Installation Procedure:
1. Connect your R_volution player to Internet.
2. Turn-ON your R_volution player.
3. A pop-up window should appear on the screen. Follow the on-screen procedure.

USB Installation procedure:
1. Download the file here...
2. Unzip the file and place the firmware file ".rff" on a USB flash drive.

3. Connect the drive to your R_volution.

4. Turn-ON your player.

5. Open Explorer.

6. Open the drive.

7. Open the firmware file and follow the on screen procedure.
